GENEVA, 29 June 2018—At UNAIDS’ 42nd ProgrammeCoordinating Board meeting, which took place in Geneva, Switzerland, on 26–28June, Board members expressed their support for UNAIDS and underscored thecritical role that the organization has to play in ending the AIDS epidemic.

Leaders from China and Africa come together to build stronger and healthier communities - 2018/9/14

Leaders from African countries and China met in Beijing, China, during the 2018 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) on 3 and 4 September to accelerate the social and economic development of Africa. Under the theme of “China and Africa: toward an even stronger community with a shared future through win–win cooperation”, the two-day summit served to further enhance Africa–China collaboration in eight key areas: industrial promotion, infrastructure connectivity, trade facilitation, green development, capacity-building, health care, people-to-people exchanges and peace and security. China’s President, Xi Jinping, also announced a US$ 60 billion package of aid, investments and loans to Africa.

Located in the southern part of China with a population of 45.7 million, Yunnan province used to bear the highest rate of HIV infections in the country. The early HIV cases in Yunnan were concentrated among injective drug users as it is near to the opium-producing areas of the Golden Triangle and the major drug trafficking routes. Gradually, It shifts to the general population through sexual transmission, which accounted for 93.8% HIV infections in 2017. After decades, Yunnan has demonstrated best practice in many areas of HIV response, including harm reduction programmes among Injecting Drug Users (IDUs). Now, Yunnan is not only a victim of many serious HIV epidemic, increasingly, it also offers solutions.
